    I understand your point on the word “tomato”. It is all down to pronounciation, but it is quite another to drop a letter so that it becomes silent and thereby altering the word completely. Even so, no offense to any Americans just baffled at why this oddity should even exist.
    I always thought dropped ‘h’s were the exclusive preserve of Londoners or “Cockneys”
    We learn something new every day :-)

    @starryian007 I just looked it up and it says either pronunciation is correct. It depends on where you are from. it’s like tomayto and tomahto. different way of saying it but the word is spelled the same. Tomato.

    @starryian007 No clue. We were taught that the ‘h’ is silent. I don’t know why there is a different way to pronounce it, that’s how we learned it though.
