I made a variant of this from a recipe I saw on Delicious TV Totally Vegetarian. The “Savory Mushroom Black Eyed Pea Burger”. I also added my own touch: some finely chopped celery and finely chopped carrot and some finely chopped onion. You can use any type of bean as the base of a veggie burger, including pinto beans.

    Hi Magnum,

    Good …
    Hi Magnum,

Good question, not “dumb” at all :)

Here’s the reason: if you add everything at once (e.g., big chunks of onion and carrot), you’ll have to process the entire mixture for a long time to get the harder pieces cut small. As a result, you’ll have more of a bean dip consistency rather than a burger consistency. Having the pieces pre-chopped also allows for really even distribution of the ingredients in the burgers (so that you won’t bite into big hunks of onion, etc.)

  25. MagnumDB says:

    I’m learning to …
I’m learning to cook for the first time, so excuse me if this question is dumb. Could I just put in whole versions of these ingredients in the blender, and blend them all that way? Meaning, why tear the bread first, why shred a baby carrot, why chop the red onion… when all of that will be blended up so much more anyway?
